If this was the weekend you’d chosen to explore the Barents east of Rybachy Peninsula, your plans were most likely ruined. From 1 August through the evening hours of 6 August, a navigational warning was announced for the area highlighted above, where live torpedo fire is expected to take place.
Those familiar with the area and the Russian Federation Navy will know that this area is home to a number of Russian submarine bases, as well as the headquarters for the Russian Northern Fleet (see below image). If you are holidaying there and still plan on taking your chances, forward your pictures of any military hardware you encounter my way; I’d love to see them.
