The USC Northern Shipyard held a ceremonial launch of the frigate Admiral Amelko on 14 August 2025. This is the fifth ship being built by the enterprise for the Russian Navy based on the Project 22350 design of the United Shipbuilding Corporation’s [USC] Northern Design Bureau.
The arsenal of Project 22350 frigates allows them to provide air defense for other ships, support landing forces, strike various land and sea targets, and carry out anti-submarine defense. In addition, the frigate has a helicopter deck that can accommodate Ka-27 helicopters of various modifications. The Admiral Amelko is a multi-purpose surface combat ship carrying long-range precision missile weapons, including Zircon hypersonic missiles. Three more Project 22350 frigates are currently under construction at Northern Shipyard.
General Director of USC Andrey Puchkov noted at the ceremony, “Now the corporation has reached a confident pace of serial construction of these ships. These frigates are capable of performing a wide range of tasks in the distant sea and ocean zone, which significantly increases the capabilities of the Russian Navy. And we proceed from the fact that in the coming years this series will continue.”
Puchkov states that USC is ready to fully implement its obligations in the interests of the armed forces. “For this purpose, we have developed a comprehensive program for modernizing our production capacities. And here, at the Northern Shipyard, one of the first, most large-scale projects will be implemented, which will significantly increase the enterprise’s capabilities for the production of modern surface ships.”
