The Russian Federation Ministry of Defense Public Affairs Office reported on 19 August 2025 that more than 10 Caspian Flotilla ships put out to sea to participate in an opposing force exercise consisting of various tactical groups to practice performing assigned tasks.
According to a press release, “During the exercise, the crews of guided missile, small guided missile, and small artillery ships will practice techniques and methods of carrying out assigned tasks with weapons employment drills, both individually and as part of ship strike groups. The minesweeper group will perform combat training tasks on sweeping for sea mines and passing through a notional minefield.”
In the first stage of maneuvers, the crews performed emergency preparations for deployment and battle, and departed the basing point for the dispersal areas.
The Ministry of Defense added that during the exercise, Caspian Flotilla sailors will practice mine countermeasures, air defense with practice gunnery, and the destruction of coastal targets with artillery fire. There are also plans to include damage control scenarios and counter-sabotage measures in an unprotected harbor.
Participating in the exercise are the guided missile ship Dagestan, small guided missile ships Tucha, Amur, Uglich, and Veliky Ustyug, small artillery ships Astrakhan and Makhachkala, and a number of base minesweepers.
