It was reported on 20 August 2025 that the Ministry of Education prepared the first official list of patriotic literature for extracurricular reading, on the instructions of President Vladimir Putin. These books are to appear in all school libraries across Russia.
The works are divided by age and topic: “About the Motherland,” “The Great Patriotic War. Historical Memory and Traditions,” “About the great people of Russia,” “The Military Leaders of Holy Russia,” “On Guard for the Russian Land,” and “To Ours.” The last section is dedicated to modern heroes defending Russia (and based on the titles and the stylized Latin “Z” in the heading, instead of the cyrillic “З,” these likely all deal with the war against Ukraine). One can presume that the authors and titles are considered safe and unchallenging.
