On 8 September 2025, the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense filed a large maritime closure area covering part of Franz Josef Land, a Russian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, from Murmansk, to ensure safe lanes for missile launch activities on 12 September, with a time window of 0300-2000 GMT.
The maritime closure comes during a bit of a flurry of five missile closure announcements declared on 8 and 9 September. The remaining four closure declarations cover the Barents Sea, and TranslatingHistory will report them later today.
While the Russian-issued advisory for the Arctic Ocean offered no information on the missile type to be expected, a quick use of standard mapping tools suggests that the missiles could reach target(s) approximately 330 km downrange.

The graphic below provides an approximate image of the advisory area based on the given coordinates.
